I just bought a one piece lingerie nighty and it says to hand wash cold and line dry. I don't want my family to see it in the washer- so I want to wash it in the sink in my bathroom and hang it in my closet to dry.

What should i use to wash it?

What do I scrub with?

  1. Just use some liquid washing soap and just squeeze it gently through then give it a rinse in cold water until all soap is rinsed out, and if you hang it in your closet it will not be as dry as when you put it into the washing machine, so i would say that you should place something at the bottom of it to collect the drips (like a towel or something similar) or you will end up with a wet floor of your closet which is not good.

  2. For lingerie, I'd use "Woolite" detergent in the sink with medium-cool water. Swish the suds through the garment for a couple of minutes, let it sit in the sudsy water for 10 minutes or so, then rinse with medium-cool water until the rinse water runs clear.

Then fill up the sink w/ medium-cool water again... add 1/2 fabric softener sheet to the water and soak the garment for a few minutes in the basin, swishing it around so the fibers are exposed to the fabric softener in the water.

Then rinse the garment again, until the water runs clear.

If you don't have any Woolite, you can substitute baby shampoo...  it's much gentler than regular laundry detergent.

Don't "scrub" it... lingerie is typically made of delicate fibers that can be broken by vigorous scrubbing.

After the garment is washed,  lay it on a towel and roll the towel up... squeeze the excess water from the garment into the towel, but do NOT twist or wring the towel/garment.

At this point the garment may be dry enough it would only take 5 minutes in the dryer to really dry it... if that's just not possible, put the garment on a non-metal hanger (or a regular hanger w/ wooden or plastic clothes pins to hold it) and let it air dry OUTside of your closet as much as possible.

Try hanging it on the back of a chair or on a door k**b and put a fan in front of it for 10-20 minutes.

You can also speed the drying process (thus detering mold and mildew) by drying it by hand w/ your hair dryer.

Instead of putting a towel on the floor of your closet to catch the drips (which means you'll have to wash yet another garment... LOL!), put a plastic trash bag into your waste paper basket and let that catch any drips.

    Hope this helps,

  3. Some washing machines have a delicate cycle or a hand wash cycle but if you can't secretly wash them in the machine then you have to hand wash them.

Use a gentle soap like some of the anti-bacterial liquid hand soaps on the market.  The anti-bacterial properties should also help reduce any fungus or mould which may grow if you are drying them in a closet.

Get a small electric fan and place it in the closet to help dry the lingerie faster.

Also consider hanging it outside inside a pillow case.

  4. Just use about 2 tablespoons of liquid concentrated laundry detergent and rinse in the sink.  Just swish it around a little in warm water and let it sit in there for a few mintes.  Swish again, then rinse with cold water.  Make sure to put a towel on the floor in your closet so any drippings will be caught on the towel.
