  1. If all else fails call the company who made the router and they can usually help you.

First, I'm betting this will fix it -- unplug BOTH your router and cable/dsl modem.  Wait 10 seconds and plug them both in again.  This is the simplest fix.

If that doesn't work you probably need to enable MAC cloning which varies by brand.  Belkin routers come with a CD that sets everything up for you, don't know if the one you got has something similar.

I'd recommend enabling some sort of security or anyone can access your internet and computer.  Routers ship without security, refer to it's owner manual on how to enable it.

  2. unplug it, plug it back in and try that

  3. Try checking your security settings on your router.

If it has encryption than look up your wep or wpa key on the router if you do not have it and on your laptop in the wireless signals that are available right click on your router name(wireless signal) and type in the key and then it should work.  To get into the router open your browser and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1(it may be different just look under the router for an address) it should ask for user name and password the default user name and password both is admin.  You should have changed the user name and password for security reasons.  If you cannot login than hold the reset button on your router(typically on the under side of the router or the back, very small button) for five seconds and then try logging in with the default user name and password and change your security settings if you want security enabled but before you do check your laptop for connectivity because since there is no security enabled on your router it is the best time to check for a connection.  Good Luck.

If you have problems let me know.  I'll help with what I can.

  4. try a soft reset and if that dont work try a hard reset

a soft reset is where you take a pen and push the reset button on the back of the router and a hard is that you hold it there for 30 sec's  ummmmm  i had problems with my lynksys router so i upgraded to a d link wbr-1310 and i have had no problems since

  5. This question is weird but is your WLAN on in the laptop?

You might be connected to other wireless router, not your linksy. Go to customs on internet connection to select which network you want to connect with.

  6. RE-INSTALL YOUR LINKSYS ROUTER SOFTWARE.YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE YOUR MODEM WIRED FOR ETHERNET ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER FIRST.AFTER YOU SET UP THE ROUTER WITH THE CD SOFTWARE AND DID ALL THE SET-UP STEPS WHILE THE COMPUTER WAS CONNECTED BY ETHERNET CABLE THAT CAME WITH THE ROUTER,YOU WILL THEN BE ABLE TO CONNECT WIRELESSLY AND REMOVE THE CABLE FROM THE COMPUTER AND JUST USE YOUR WIRELESS CONNECTION IN YOUR COMPUTER TO CONNECT TO THE WIRELESS ROUTER.
