Question:

Linksys Wireless Router D:?

I lost my installation disk for my Linksys router. I need to hook it up to a new desktop, but I don't have the software. The model is WRT54GS version 7. Is there anywhere (other than the Linksys site, I couldn't get any of those to work) that I can find the software or how to hook it up without any software? Please and thanks. D:

  1. Hass, is totally correct you don't need the CD.

If the router was working on the old computer then really all you need to do is plug your new computer into the router and power it up! You don't have to change the router configuration to add more computers, nor do you need to add any software, its all automatic once the router is setup to work!

  2. You don't need an installation disk to set up your router.  There is usually a button on the router that allows you to reset it to it's default settings.  Hold that button for a few seconds until one of the lights starts flashing on the front of the router.  After it is reset you should be able to access the router setup page by typing "192.168.1.1" in your web browser.  Default login:

    username: "admin"

    password: "admin"

Wireless may be disabled by default, so you may need to plug your computer into the router to access it.  If you get stuck, there are plenty of sites that give instructions on the web.  Here is one.

  3. That's correct that you don't need a disc.  If you really want the software though, you can download the installation file from Lynksys at this long address below.  Just select your product type from the drop-down menu.
