Linksys router question

Question

Recently my brother set up something onto the linksys router thing so that it only allowed certain mac addresses to use the internet. But now he got mad at me and made it so the internet would turn off until 5 o clock at which point would turn on, because 5 o clock is when he gets home. I am using the ethernet, but this is hard because i have to unplug from the router and pull the modem out and plug it in. How can I get past this, and please don't say press the reset button because he checks it a lot. My parents can't do anything because they're not really technology wise.

If you don't mind resetting the router every day (hold the reset button for 30 seconds, unplug/replug and hold for another 30 seconds) and using an unsecure network (aka others could connect to it) that would be the easiest thing and HE CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO STOP YOU unless he's physically restraining you or locks the router away where you can't get to it (which would hurt his wireless strength).

If he doesn't physically check it often, you could get a second wireless router and set it up between the modem and his router.  Don't forget to change all the passwords and the SSID (name) if you do though, or he'll notice that a new router is there because of the default name.  He may notice that he's getting a "private" type address if you do so find a router that supports changing the DHCP address range to something like 10.39.7.x instead of the usual "private" 192.168.x.x range.  This has the added advantage of double-NATing (usually bad) which can s***w up port-forwarding on the second router in the chain (his) and cause games/IM programs to choke.  To get around that you'd have to set up your router to forwared all the ports to his router so he wouldn't notice.

Alternatively you could have a reset-war where you reset/secure it your way (lock him out) and he resets/secures it his way...you get the picture.

Some network adapters let you change (spoof) a fake MAC address, you could try changing yours to match his address (although you'd have to figure it out first) and then you *shouldn't* be blocked since he'd be probably not want to block himself.

I assume you've tried plugging into the Linksys LAN ports with a wire?  He's probably found a way to block that but if it works, you could hook a "wireless access point" up to that (again, change the SSID and passwords to keep him out) and then you'd have access wirelessly as if you were plugged in through that port.

Alternatively, do you know any of the neighbors well?  You could make a deal with them to use their wireless internet, as long as you get their permission BEFORE using it that's ok to do.

Well first off getting to the internet directly from the modem is a bad idea. This is how hackers get onto your computer and access personal information or use your computer as a bot to spam others. That's why you always use a router to protect from this. Second I'm guessing he password protected the router admin panel and the fact that he checks it quite a bit I have to say there's nothing you can do.

I think your parents need to get involved to sort out your brothers selfish behaviour.

Press the reset button.  If your brother gets mad about it, have your parents tell him to not restrict your access (unless of course your parents are the ones restricting your access)  Until after they get home from work.  Other than that just go into the routers home page and turn off the restriction settings.
