Question:

Linksys security network issues 'unsecured'?

I have been putting my computer and my father's computer under a network group but under 'managing wireless networks' it has our network, my network, and then the linksys. Shouldn't linksys be in our network? Also, my computer is wireless and his is the one connected to the linksys, but when i tried to find the network on his computer, it wouldn't let me put up secure network with the linksys.

Our computers both have Vista but his layout under Control panel is NOTHING like mine and when I tried to secure the network on mine, I'd put in the WEP and it would 1. disconnect me from the internet, and then 2. viewing 'linksys' under connections it still said it was unsecure. What am I doing wrong, and i tried getting on the linksys website using defaults and it wasn't working? Is there a way to do this through my computer? My father doesn't like me going on his and it's very confusing when the layout on his isn't the same as mine.

You can try searching for your linksys router under scribd.com

It offers free ebooks, which might help you.

    Try using WPA instead.

  2. try this:

go into internet explorer and type http://192.168.1.1

this should bring up the router's firmwear access page. You'll need the user/password to access it, which is usually Username left blank and password: admin

Or, Username: admin   ,   Password: admin

I've included a link for a set of linksys products' default user and passwords (see Below)

This will bring up the interface that will enable you to configure the actual router. You don't configure the router through windows control pannel, but rather through the router's firmwear interface. You'll be able to turn on encryption security and MAC address filtering through this router interface.

For further specifics consult your manual, or find it online, should be on the linksys website.
