Question:

Linksys setup help?...new laptop...mac?

i just got a mac book laptop and i had a linksys router so i plugged it in to the laptop so i can go on the internet...it keeps saying put in wep or wpa password in...and so i kept pressing go back till it would let me go on the internet for 5 minutes....then i unplugged it so i could be wireless and the same thing happens...please help!

  1. Press that reset button first. Makes everything easier to do. Then plug the ethernet cable from the Mac into the "Internet" port on the Linksys. Enter the IP address for setup, I think it's 192.168.1.1 by default (the number is printed on the router).

    Enter the Wireless or some tab called Wireless Security and set up WPA since WEP isn't secure enough. Enter a passphrase, longer the better, and then save the settings. Also, change the default router access password in one of the other tabs.

    Now, unplug the ethernet cable. Restart the Mac either through a sleep or something, just need it to disable the wired connection first. Go into the Wireless network finder, find your router by name, and then enter the passphrase exactly. After that, it should be working wirelessly.
