Lino Munoz, Cynthia Gonzalez prevail in 2013 I Mercosul International Series – Badminton news
Mixed Doubles player Lino Munoz and Cynthia Gonzalez of Mexico showed great fighting spirit in the final round of I Mercosul International Series and won the trophy on Sunday, June 2, 2013.
They were up against a Brazilian duo Hugo Arthuso-Fabiana Silva and their encounter prolonged to 37 minutes before ending with final figures of 21-16 and 21-16.
The local badminton arena of Iguazu, Brazil was filled to its capacity as a huge crowd assembled to support the native shuttlers. However, there was nothing to cheer for them as the local pair knelt down in both segments of the showdown.
On the other hand, the Mexican players forged a fruitful chemistry and registered a splendid straight-set win.
Lino and Cynthia started the beating immediately from the beginning of first set and maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation. They showed their intentions by prevailing in the establishing rallies.
They relished full benefits of their initial lead and doubled their total way before the announcement of one-minute break. At the half time, both Mexican shuttlers were in commanding position with a mountainous figure of 11.
The latter part of game was also dominated by Lino and Cynthia as they did not give the opposing team even a single chance to rise. They widened the gap on points table in third quarter of the set and then won this crucial match point with 21-16 score on
the board.
Next game was just a replay of previous one as the Brazilian campaigners failed to end their bad patch and surrendered in a woeful manner. Although they showed some spark in middle of the contest, yet this performance was not enough to avoid a straight-set
defeat.
Meanwhile, the twosome of Lino and Cynthia ruled the court throughout this set. Both Mixed Doubles partners raised their chances of success by prevailing in the establishing rallies and then ensured their victory with a staggering knock in third quarter
of the set.
They won this crucial set with a significant lead of five points in 21-16 margin and earned the right to raise the trophy in Mercosul International Series.
