Linus Gerdemann still looking 2013 home after being refused by Team RadioShack-Nissan
Linus Gerdemann failed to make it through the final Team RadioShack-Nissan squad for the 2013 season and is still not certain of his future.
The former Tour de France yellow jersey-holder marked his professional debut with Team CSC in 2005 and rode for Team T-Mobile through 2006-08 seasons.
He accepted an offer from Team Milram in 2009 and stayed with the side by the end of 2010 season before joining the Luxembourg side, Team Leopard Trek in 2011.
Team Leopard Trek announced its merger with Team RadioShack to Form Team RadioShack-Nissan Trek and only the top riders from both the sides were given contracts.
The merger left many cyclists homeless but Linus Gerdemann was lucky to make it through the final team squad for the 2012 season however, for not very long as Team RadioShack-Nissan has not given him a contract for the new season.
The 30-year-old was disappointed after hearing the news and noted that he has dedicated himself to the team captain for the past two seasons which gave him very little chance to ride for his own self.
The 30-year-old’s most recent victory came during the Tour de Luxembourg when he managed to win the second stage of the race along with an overall victory at the event.
"The last two years I have dedicated myself completely for my captains at Leopard," he told Cyclingnews.
"Nonetheless I could also prove that I can win myself at the Tour of Luxembourg [in 2011 - ed.], our home-race. Having this in mind I was a bit surprised when I didn't get offered a spot on the roster for 2013. I found out very late, only a couple of weeks
ago".
Gerdemann could only complete 63 days of racing in 2012 and his performance came during the Tour of Poland where he managed to occupy the fifth overall spot after the final general classifications.
"Now I have to check out my options, although it is pretty late. In this short time span I haven't found a team that I can identify with,” Gerdemann said.
The cyclist was last seen in action at the third and the final Grand Tour of the season, the Vuelta a Espana where he managed to squeeze two top-10 stage finishes.
