ok, I currently have ubuntu on my laptop, and I'm a movie and music person, so instead of bothering with the c**p getting the driver-like things to play the files, I want to get something new and easy with it all ready. any distros that are nice and easy to set up?

  1. Due to anpother os companies forced restrictions on licencing for linux, there are none with it included.

  2. That's what i'm using http://www.livedistro.org/release-announ... ; absolutely everything  is installed and since it's based on PCLOS it's rock solid and extremely user friendly.

  3. Ubuntu is by far one of the easiest ones to set up. You should try Mandriva Linux Spring 2008.1, I find it is excellent right after installing. Although, for media, I`m pretty sure the KDE variant has Kaffiene and the GNOME-based one has something or another, I can`t remember right now and I can`t find out either because my internet is only letting me run Answers, OperaLink and my IM client. For the most part, Mandriva is simple and easy to use. I`d recommend the KDE variant, but that`s only because I`m a fan of KDE. And if you want something sorta like Windows Media Center or Apple Front Row (i think thats what its called) then try installing Elisa.

for more mandriva info check out http://www.mandriva.com

  4. Its easy to install the codecs. Just run in terminal

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Linux Mint has these codecs installed by default and Sabayon has many hardware drivers included in the DVD too.
