  1. It kind of depends on whether you are a casual user or a system administrator.  If you are a system administator, then I would suggest:

    Linux Administration Handbook by Evi Nemeth, Garth Snyder, and Trent R. Hein

    If you are a casual user, then I would suggest:

    Linux in a Nutshell (O'Reilly)

    Just a suggestion, if you own a computer with Linux loaded on it, you'll eventually want to know about system administration stuff.
