Ubuntu is WAY hard to make it dual boot with windows. You need lots of partitions, mount points, and all that confusing random c**p. What linuxes are easy to install, and are able to dual boot with Windows?

  1. it's very easy, especially with ubuntu. you'll need 2 partitions free, one for the os and 1 for the swap disk.

there is a program that will install ubuntu through windows but i can't recall the program.

the pia is when you want to remove ubuntu later. you'll have to fix your mbr to get everything back to normal

  2. The procedure below is just the same as installing any other piece of software on Windows.

You can install Ubuntu 8.04.1 using Wubi installer. You keep Windows as it is, Wubi http://wubi-installer.org/ only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers.

Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.

    LUg.

  3. No *Nix system is hard to dual boot with.  It depends on your set up.  The easiest, safest, and most reliable method is to use different hard drives for each.

When you install any *Nix, Ubuntu, Fedora (my preference) etc., you will have the option to install GRUB, which is a boot preference modulator.  When installed you turn on your computer, and GRUB will ask what you want to boot (which partition, which HDD, etc) you select the one you want and that systems boot sector takes over.
