Lionel Messi and the year 2010 (Part 1)
The Argentinean striker Lionel Messi has been a crucial part of Barcelona since he joined them. Like most of the Barcelona players, Messi is also a youth product of the Spanish club and he came from their academy known to be “La
Masia.”
Messi or “Leo” cannot be summed up in a single word. He has been described as incredible, fabulous, and outstanding; however, to be honest, words simply fail to describe the quality that he possesses. The Argentinean has proven
it time and again and who cannot second this note. The main man for, both, Argentina and Barcelona, is famous for his brilliant work on the right wing and the centre of the pitch. The Argentinean maestro has the ability to finish the ball into the net from
almost anywhere. It is true that a “traditional” winger is not supposed to score goals, but Messi is simply from another planet and he has proven this on many occasions. Lionel Messi is definitely one of those players that can change the cause of the game
and the whole team can easily rely on him.
Lionel Messi has been extraordinary during the year 2010 and to sum it all up, let us look at his career during this year:
10th January: The Catalan giants had to visit Tenerife, a bottom of the table club in the Spanish La Liga. The Argentinean maestro was ready to face
the challenge while being away from home as he and rest of the squad managed to lay down an extraordinary performance for their coach Josep Guardiola. Being superb in all the areas of the field, the Spanish Champions dominated the game throughout and Lionel
Messi scored a brilliant hat trick on this date. The Catalans won the game while being away from home as the final score line was 0-5. Lionel Messi’s last goal was simply phenomenal as he managed to chip the ball over the goalkeeper’s head: another extraordinary
performance by the “little man.”
14th March: Barcelona were to face a tough looking side Valencia. With strikers like Roberto Soldado, Juan Mata and David Villa included in the Valencia
line-up, the game did look difficult on paper; however, for Lionel Messi the opposition was yet another piece of cake and the Argentinean maestro managed to give his best yet again. The South American star scored another hat trick as he was playing in Barcelona’s
home ground, the Nou Camp. It was a piece of individual brilliance and the Barcelona number 10 simply stole the show as Valencia was left with absolutely no chance. Two of the goals that he scored were helped by the midfield maestro Xavi Hernandez while the
last one had Messi written all over it as he destroyed the Valencia defence as he penetrated through them and found the back of the net with a killer left footed shot.
