Lionel Messi and the year 2010 (Part 3)
10th April: Barcelona were totally dominating the Spanish La Liga but they had to play a very crucial game against their arch rivals Real Madrid. The
Catalan Giants won their first leg at the Nou Camp with the help of a single goal scored by their newly signed Inter Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic as Daniel Alves delivered the perfect cross for him. With Josep Guardiola visiting the home ground of Real Madrid
for the first time during the season, he made sure he played the best player in his team, Lionel Messi. The Argentinean simply did what he was supposed to do – score at least a single goal. During the first half, the Los Blancos tried to dominate Barcelona
as they tried to take advantage of their home ground and home crowd. However, with Lionel Messi winning a free kick right outside the 18-yard box, he made sure that no time was wasted as he quickly passed it on to Xavi Hernandez and made a run towards the
goal. With a perfectly lobbed ball coming towards the Argentinean, Messi made sure he does not waste the only chance coming his way as he shot the ball past Iker Casillas to open the scoring of the game. Barcelona won the game 0-2 away from home and it helped
them remain at the top spot of the Spanish La Liga.
16th May: Barcelona were to face Real Valladolid in the last fixture of the Spanish La Liga and the game was supposed to take place at their home ground,
the Nou Camp. Just in case Barcelona would lose, the title could have been snatched away by Real Madrid who looked to be in outstanding form last season especially with players like Ricardo Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo. With Real Madrid having a little chance
of winning the title, Lionel Messi made sure that this did not happen. As Xavi Hernandez was missing out the clash due to suspension, it was up to Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi to take control of the game in the midfield and up front. The Argentinean managed
to find the back of the net twice during the game as he scored yet another brace in a Blaugrana jersey. With Lionel Messi adding 2 more goals to his tally, he became the highest goal scorer in not only Spain, but also Europe. The Argentinean managed to find
the back of the net on 48 occasions, a record which was only accomplished by a former Barcelona star and the Brazilian legend Ronaldo. Lionel Messi made sure that he wrote his name in the history books as one of the best strikers who played in Barcelona as
he wrote his name write next to the Brazilian forward Ronaldo, who is still remembered as one of the best goal scorers of all time. Both the men got the job done in the same number of matches and scored the same amount of goals.
