Lionel Messi performance analysis: “the player from another planet”
It was the time when Barcelona visited Emirates Stadium in their quarter final clash of Champions League in 2009 season, when Arsene Wenger declared that the Argentinean wizard, Lionel Messi, is a player not from this planet. He said, "You go to football
to watch players like Messi. What he does is so beautiful it becomes art. He is on another planet." The new 2010 season in La-Liga has kicked off and the Champions League first leg is already played off, and it is beyond doubt that Messi started from where
he left the last season. The player has truly performed to a level where one has to agree with the comments made by Arsene Wenger in the last season.
Messi, 23, has been Champions League’s top-scorer for two years now. He ended his last campaign with Barca, with a record 47 goals in a single season. Further in 2009 season, he became the youngest Barcelonan player to bag 100 goals, and was declared the
best player in the world. The questions aroused after his poor form with his national team Argentina, and there were some serious doubts on whether the sensational Messi will be able to bounce back and be on top of the game once again this season. The player’s
performances had set him such high standards that it is now expected out of him to win each and every game, each time he wears a coloured shirt. Will the great Messi be able to do it once again, is a question that will be answered at the end of the season
but whatever he has done so far, implicates that there is nothing stopping the magnificent Messi and it’s only the matter of time, when the player will again be declared best in the world.
Lionel started his season with a second leg game against Sevilla. As was expected, he found the net three times in the match, making an impact on Sevilla that will haunt them throughout the season. What can be a better start than from a wining hat-trick
and wining the first trophy for your team? Soon after that, the La-Liga kicked off, and Barcelona started their season by registering a win in which again Messi was able to score his first La-Liga goal of the season. The third match in which Messi started
was a total disappointment for the team and the player as well. Barcelona lost at Nou Camp against the newly-promoted Hercules. For few it was truly a dramatic game, but the loss actually helped Barcelona a lot. It made them more furious, and brought every
player on its toes that in order to win it all the way, they need to play against each team in a positive way. That experience was taken positively and the effects were immediately seen in the Barcelona’s Champions League starting match against Panathinaikos.
Messi started the match against Panathinaikos and went on to score two goals in the match. The unbelievable part of the story is that he missed a penalty that was won by him, he hit the pole two times, missed the two other opportunities in which he would
have otherwise scored, got two goals assists and still at the end of the match he was able to come twice on the score sheet. This is what the most remarkable thing about the Messi factor is. The player never gets tired of scoring goals, and even in the last
minute of the match, he is as hungry to find the net as the match just started. The player performance was truly remarkable in the sense that he almost was part of 10 great opportunities to score goals.
With 6 goals in 4 starts this season, Messi is already on the road of glory and few will doubt his potential to make it through the season in the same form. The player is truly from another planet, and has already achieved so much in such a young age.
