Heynckes replaced Louis van Gaal after the former manager received criticism for his defensive setup. Van Gaal was unable to lead the German giants to anything big last season, finishing third in the Bundesliga and having to qualify through play-offs to

Messi warned his team against any complacency at any stage of the European competition in their effort to avoid Jupp Heynckes’ dangerous looking Bayern for as long as they could.
While talking to Bild on Bayern’s chances this season, the Argentinean striker further enthused:
"Bayern have a great team, and a very dangerous team. They are stronger than last year. Except for [Bastian] Schweinsteiger they are all in top form. And importantly, the final of the Champions League takes place in their stadium. This is also a plus for
them."
The 24-year-old also spoke about the unfortunate injury to one of Bayern’s most experienced midfielders, Bastian Schweinsteiger.
