Lions' running back, Best shows up for practice; doubtful against Panthers – NFL News
Detroit Lions injured running back Jahvid Best showed up on the field for the first time since his concussion after the week six game of the National Football League current season against San Francisco 49ers.
Although he is still not hundred per cent and did not even take part in the practice session, his presence was a good omen for his side that lost its last week encounter against Chicago Bears 37-13.
Best was drafted in the 2010 NFL Draft by Lions with which he signed a five-year contract in July 2010. Lions’ head coach Jim Schwartz has cited the sensitivity of Best’s injury as a reason behind his absence from the earlier training
sessions.
"That's been typical with our guys that are fighting concussions," said Schwartz on Monday. "That's one of the things that we're finding out isn't a great idea, is the whole travel issue and a lot of different things that bother
guys with concussions."
Best has suffered from concussions since his college days. He’s constantly meeting with doctors to get his problem fixed. The coach is desperate to have him back on the side, but wants to make sure that the player is completely
fit before he steps on the field.
"We're status quo with that," Schwartz said. "When we get clearance from the doctors, then we'll get him back. But he needs to be symptom-free before we get clearance from the doctors."
Best has played six games this season and has two touchdowns and 390 yards on 84 carries. Lions have lost two out of three games in which Best did not play, but the coach thinks that the offense is still strong with the Lions
having won six games this season and are placed at second spot of the National Football Conference North division.
“I don’t want to say (Best being out has) hurt our offense,” Schwartz said Wednesday. “I mean, we have a lot of other playmakers and those guys can make plays.
Detroit Lions 6-3 will look to bounce back from their Bears nightmare against the Carolina Panthers and are favourites for the win. Quarter back Matthew Stafford fractured finger is healing as he continues to wear gloves and is
set to play while the Lions also will have their inform Wide Receiver Calvin Johnson who passed a concussion test on Monday and took part in practice on Wednesday.
