Lions’ Brandon Pettigrew latest to apologise after bumping referee during Saints’ game – NFL News
Detroit Lions players have been apologising a lot this season with defensive tackle Brandon Pettigrew becoming the latest to release a statement apologising for his actions during Lions 31-17 loss at the hands of New Orleans Saints.
"I want to sincerely apologize to my teammates, my coaches, the Lions organization, fans and the NFL for my actions during the game on Sunday. In the heat of competition, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me," Pettigrew
said in a statement Tuesday. "I know better and my unintentional mistake cost my team. I've never acted this way before and it won't happen again. I am fully committed to helping the Detroit Lions win with class and in a manner that our fans will respect."
Pettigrew was flagged for a personal foul on Saints Safety Roman Harper after he bumped the official trying to separate the two after the whistle had gone. The Lions were down 14 points in the fourth quarter with four minutes of
regular time left.
Pettigrew got his legs tied up with Harper’s and knocked the safety to the ground. As the official approached to separate the two Pettigrew pushed the official with intent knocking Harper to the ground again leading to the foul.
The idiotic behaviour however was dismissed by Lions Coach Jim Schwartz who cited the official telling him that Pettigrew did not know he pushed the official.
Detroit Lions committed 11 fouls during the game and their playing style has been branded dirty across the National Football League. Analysts and ex-players have been calling on Schwartz to reign in the combustible personalities
of his players before the team suffers further due to such actions.
Lions already have defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh suspended for two games as he lashed out a kick aiming for the hand of Green Bay Packers Guard Evan Dietrich-Smith in game week 12 of the National Football League.
With the eyes of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Detroit Lions next game against Minnesota Vikings on Sunday December 11, Lions players should reign in their aggression so that more penalties and fines are not placed on a team
already panned throughout the NFL for rough play.
