Lions’ Elton Jantjies wants to help his team win in their next campaign - Super Rugby News
Lions’ fly-half Elton Jantjies is keen to pick his game up for his team in the next season of Super Rugby. The Lions are left with just one match in the ongoing Super Rugby championship and they are placed in 14th position
on the tables. Jantjies’ performance in the whole tournament remained very ordinary and he is looking forward to boost his output in the coming seasons.
Jantjies made his Super Rugby debut for the Lions in the current season but could not impress the critics with his sub-par performances. Earlier, he was very efficient for the Golden Lions, as he earned 141 points for his team in
just 14 games. However, he was dropped by the Lions for the Australian tour for his uneven show.
Talking to the media today, June 13, he admitted his poor display during the season. He stated that, “To be honest, I started the pre-season in poor shape. I was slightly behind the rest of the guys because I’d gone on the Bok tour
and on top of that I had a groin injury which I just couldn’t shake off.”
Jantjies further explained that most of the time he was left struggling with his fitness and that was a major cause of his substandard play. He added, “I couldn’t prepare my body properly for the first few weeks of the competition
and I also lacked in conditioning. My fitness needed working on and in a competition such as Super Rugby you have to be 100 percent in shape. The speed of the game is like nothing I’ve experienced and you simply don’t have as much time to make decisions as
you do in Currie Cup rugby.”
However Jantjies described the season as a learning experience for him and said that the championship has pointed out his many draw backs. He has largely failed with his off the target kicks and said that he would try to adjust
his timing. He hoped to achieve all the required expertise in the coming few years.
