Lions’ skipper and coach applaud young Elton Jantjies – Super Rugby Update
Lions’ Elton Jantjies, who helped his side to their first victory in Canberra over the Brumbies 29-20 on Saturday, May 14, has been greatly admired by his skipper Joshua Strauss and coach John Mitchell.
The Lions ended up their long drought of Super Rugby victory against the Brumbies, as Jantjies kicked three conversions along with a splendid penalty to celebrate an amazing victory against the Brumbies.
The South African derby, Lions are having a poor season and they are placed on the bottom of points table. Before this weekend’s victory, the Lions had seven straight defeats in the current Super Rugby championship. Furthermore they were left l*****g their
wounds in the previous match they played against the Cheetahs, by a huge margin of 53-19.
The coach and skipper of the Lions have been flattered by the performance of their fly-half as they won the second match of the current season after 12 outgoings.
The Lions’ coach declared the victory a booster for his side and stated that it was nice to defeat the two time champions of Super Rugby in front of their home crowd. Although the Brumbies have not displayed any remarkable performance in the recent season,
but Mitchell was delighted.
He credited the young Jantjies for the nail biting success and said, “I've got a lot of time for Elton, I think he's got a great future. I think he played the first six or seven games and had a bit of a rough ride there. I thought it was important to put
him out to pasture and humble him a little bit and make him work hard at his game.”
The Lions’ skipper also praised the young man and said that his contribution was superb in the match. Apart from Jantjies’ performance he also applauded his team’s effort and said, "We've worked really hard this week and we really wanted this one. We've
been talking about it all season and finally it came through for us."
The skipper is determined to display the same winning performance in their remaining matches. The Lions will take on the Waratahs in their upcoming clash of Super Rugby on May 21.
