I'm 17 years old and about to start my second year of college in the United Kingdom. I want to get my lip pierced on the bottom left hand side. I have been thinking about it for 3 years so I am certain I want it done and I have researched the risks and how to look after it. However, how much would you suggest it hurts? I have 2 lobe piercings, one of which I didn't even feel and one that hurt briefly. Any suggestions on how I can bring my parents round to the idea though? I am pretty much probably going to get it done, but I want them to feel like I respect their opinions. All help welcomed!! But please only comment if you have had a lip piercing or know someone who has, and do not comment saying how it is a stupid thing to do as I am old enough to make my own decisions and mistakes.

  1. If your lobes didn't bother you at all to get pierced, then getting your lip done won't bother you at all. personally I thought getting my lip pierced hurt less than getting my lobes done. actually, it didn't hurt at all and I didn't even really realise that my piercer had done it until he was already putting the jewelry in.

as for talking to your parents about it. Even though I'm in my mid 20s, I still talk to my parents about stuff like that. I just told them that I was considering it and had done research. my dad is easier than my mom, who asked several questions about it and doesn't much care for piercings. I got positive feedback from both after i went and did it. Just talk to them about it. For what its worth, there are no laws about getting anything other than genital piercings in England with regards to age, so you don't need their permission to get pierced.

    good luck.

  2. It hurts a fair bit more than a lobe piercing - I would say about as much as a single cartilage piercing ... which is far from unbearable.  I recommend getting a stud put in it at first because when they insert the ring into the fresh piercing that does hurt quite a bit.

I don't know about persuading your parents - it may be better to just do it and let them come round to the idea ... worked with my mum and my nose ring!

    Good luck.
