Question:

Lip piercing question...?

Thursday I pierced my lip myself. I used a sterilized piercing needle and 16g horseshoe barbell. Its doing great [very little swelling and no pain] and I love how it looks. But on the inside on the bottom part of the hole there's a little bit of white stuff building up. Anyone know what it is?

Btw, I don't want to hear about how stupid I am for doing it myself and all that other bullshit. =]

  1. It might be plaque from your teeth   ?

Just rinse your mouth with non-alcoholic mouthwash after each food and drink except water, and it should be fine. btw, i know someone who does a bunch of piercings themself and they look great. i just don't have the guts to!   :P

  2. Well, the person above me either nailed it or neither of us know what it is, but, do not drink milk or eat cheese for the first like, 2-3 weeks you have it. It can cause a really nasty infection.

  3. It is most likely a little bit of scar tissue build up. It's pretty normal. Just keep cleaning it and it should go away with time. I would have never had the courage to pierce my own lip. It's just easier making a piercer stick it through fast while I sit there with my eyes closed tight.

  4. hey hun...i actually find it kind of cool that you did it yourself..lol uhm its almost IMPOSSIBLE for a person to get something pierced with out something discharging from it...remember its a open hole. the body just isnt used to it yet!! so its most likely just normal!! so what i would reccommend is just washing your mouth with mouthwash mainly listerine after ecery timeyou smoke, eat, drink, anything and it will keep it clean and speed up the healing process. i have my chin pierced which is basically the same thing!! but hopes this helps!! good luck!!

  5. its either plaque or just normal secretion that happens from getting a piercing.

anything that it white, clear or slightly yellowed is normal and nothing to worry about. Its just signs that you're healing.

make sure that you're still brushing your teeth, continue to rinse with alcohol free mouthwash after everything you eat or drink.

if you're also doing sea salt rinses/soaks (which you should be doing) you may be mixing your solution too strong and its excess salt buildup.

I found that week three was a lot more difficult on me than the first couple of weeks after I got my lip pierced....just thought I would mention that.
