Question:

Lip ring rubbing gums and tooth???

I just got my lip pierced and the bar is pretty long to make room for swelling apparently. However, every time I talk i can feel the ring rubbing against my tooth and sometimes against my gum. I was wondering if I changed the jewelry to a smaller bar, would that fix the problem? I have to wait for two weeks to change it though--could any permanent damage to my tooth/gums happen in 2 weeks?? Thanks

  1. I used to have a lip ring and I had the same problem. I kept going smaller to see if that would help but eventually i got one that was too small and it sort of got embedded in my lip. It was really gross.

Also, my tooth is permanently damaged from the like 4 months that I had the lip ring.

  2. It is possible that it could erode your gums and chip the enamel on your teeth.  This happened with my tongue ring rubbing on the backs of my bottom 2 teeth and gums, and I had to take it out.  I can't imagine that happening in 2 weeks though, so just change it ASAP.

  3. I had my lip pierced and it was in the wrong spot and rubbed away at my gum, I almost needed to get a graft done, now years later it's ok and you can't tell.  A friend of mine had her tongue pierced and it did over $500 worth of damage to her teeth.  Oral piercings can do damage, it would be a good idea to get your dentist to have a look, if you can get past the lecture first.
