Lippi rejects Anzhi link but open to a move to the Russian side in the future: Serie A news
Former Italian national team manager, Marcello Lippi, has rejected rumours linking him with a managerial role for Russian side, Anzhi Makhachkala.
The Dagestani club recently sacked their manager, Gadzhi Gadzhiev, after string of poor performances of late. Brazilian legend, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-Carlos-c31317, has been given the player plus coach role for the time being as the club begin their
hunt for a new boss.
The big-spending Anzhi signed Cameroonian striker, Samuel Eto’o, from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window for a fee in the region of €30 million. The Russian billionaires also signed former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yuri-Zhirkov-c37683,
in the summer.
Recent reports in the media have linked Lippi with a role at Makhachkala and it is rumoured that he will bring http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Materazzi-c23709, along with him as an assistant.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 boss denied any contact with the Russian outfit but he has not ruled out a move to Dinamo Stadium in the future.
While talking to the reporters, Lippi said, “I won’t be going to Anzhi. I haven’t had any contact with the club and, to be honest, this is the first time I’m hearing this rumour. Would I be interested in them if they did call me?
We’ll have to just wait and see if that happens…”
The Italian quitted the national team role in 2010 and since then, he has not worked with any other team. Lippi is still interesting in managerial role and admitted that he would consider an offer should any team come calling.
“I do have the desire to get back to coaching. Should I receive any interesting offers then I will evaluate them.” added the former Juventus boss
Lippi has worked with as many as 12 different teams during his almost 29 year managerial career. The veteran tactician led the Italian national team to 2006 FIFA World Cup triumph and also helped Juventus to win five league titles
and a Champions League.
He has also been nominated as the Serie A coach of the year three times in his career in 1997, 1998 and 2003. Lippi’s longest stint as a manager came with Juventus from 1994 to 1999.
