Lipsky/ Ram outplay Delgado/Marray to reach doubles quarterfinals – Hall of Fame Championships 2011
Top seed American duo of Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram cruised its way to the quarter-finals of the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships Doubles event, after beating the British combination of Jamie Delgado and Jonathan Marray
on Wednesday.
Being played at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, United States, the contest featured brilliant tennis skills from Lipsky and Ram, who wrapped up a straight sets victory at 6-2, 7-6(4), to advance
to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The British pair hung in the contest for just one hour and six minutes before submitting in straight sets to the top seeded duo in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour event. Delgado and Marray failed to develop
coordination, something very well exhibited by Lipsky and Ram throughout the matchup.
The Americans were off to a flyer in the opening set and launched a series of attacking manoeuvres to push their opponents on the back foot right from the start. Lipsky and Ram magnificently delivered 86 per cent of their first
serve on target, reeling off 14 out of 18 points on it to get the competitive advantage over Delgado and Marray, who’s pathetic serve reached merely 39 per cent accuracy in the opener.
Lipsky and Ram appeared totally unplayable in the first set and they struck two immediate serve breaks to ease their way to set point at 5-2. A fiery forehand winner across the court sealed the opening set for the top seeded pair
at 6-2, getting the upper hand in the contest.
High quality intense tennis was witnessed in the second set, with Delgado and Marray straining very hard to survive in the competition. The British duo dropped serve early in the set but then got the advantage back with them by
striking their first serve break of the day, levelling the scores at 6-6 to impose a tie breaker round. Lipsky and Ram kept their nerves in the decider and belted some forceful winners to wrap up the contest at 7-6(4) to get into the quarter-final round draws
of the tournament.
The top seeded duo will now face the combination of Matthew Ebden of Australia and Ryan Harrison of the United Sates in the quarter-final matchup on Thursday. The wildcard pair of Ebden and Harrison won their opening round matchup
against the team of Treat Conrad Huey and Ryan Sweeting in a three-set thriller, 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-6, to qualify for the quarter-finals.
