Liquigas finalizes 2011 line-up
Manager of Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Roberto Amadio, has announced that the 2011 line-up for the Italian team is complete, with the confirmation of seven more signings.
“We have found our missing pieces,” said Amadio. “These last signings will guarantee a high level of reliability in the service of the team, be it in one-day races or stage races.”
Dominik Nerz and Ted King were both unexpectedly left hanging without a team when Milram and the Cervélo TestTeam both recently announced that they would be disbanding at the end of the year. King was joined by fellow American Timmy
Duggan as one of the last seven signings.
Duggan has spent six years riding for Jonathan Vaughters on Team Garmin-Transitions. Australian Cameron Wurf is also moving to the team. Wurf is already based in Italy, and he rode the Giro d’Italia in support of Michele Scarponi
for the Italian team Androni Giocattoli.
“King and Duggan will be the first Americans in the history of our team, just as Nerz and Cameron will be the first German and first Australian,” said Amadio.
Completing the 29-rider squad are three more Italians. Alan Marangoni is switching over from Colnago-CSF and Mauro Da Dalto and Simone Ponzi are both coming from Team Lampre-Farnese Vini. Da Dalto has been with Lampre for two year,
having originally transferred to that team from Liquigas, the team he is now returning to.
“We’re also happy with the return of Da Dalto, who is a tireless worker, as well as the arrivals of Marangoni and Ponzi, two riders who have already shown they can have their say as professionals,” said Amadio.
The team, currently known as Liquigas-Doimo, will acquire American bike supplier Cannondale as its secondary title sponsor, while Doimo will continue to partially fund the team.
