Lisa Anderson to end 8-year retirement at the Moskova Trials – Surfing News
The former four-time Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour champion Lisa Andersen of America is all set to make a return to competition at The Moskova Trials on February 24 in Australia.
The 42-year-old Floridian is aiming to capitalise on the opportunity provided by The Moskova Trials to earn a spot in the opening event of the 2012 ASP Women’s World Tour, Roxy Pro, that is scheduled to get underway on the Gold Coast, Australia, on February
25.
The last time Anderson competed in a World Title event was at Roxy Pro as a wildcard entry in 2004. She is once again aiming for the same spot in the same event, though she will have to overcome a handful of determined female surfers to get the coveted entry
into the upcoming elite tour event.
The American surfer had dominated female surfing from 1994-97, taking home the ASP Women’s World Title for four consecutive years. After enjoying a pretty successful career, she announced retirement from the ASP Women’s World Tour in 2003, though she could
hardly control her urge to surf against the female surfers from around the world and returned to Snapper Rocks the very year.
Getting yet another chance to face the current elite female surfers at what she considers to be one of the most exciting surfing spot in the world, Anderson is pretty excited and honoured at the same time.
“It’s really a great opportunity to get back into something I love and to surf Snapper again with the girls and really feel a part of the event again,” said Anderson.
She further went on to add, “The Roxy Pro is such a great start to the competition year. It’s a big perk to be involved. I really hope everyone enjoys the event. I can’t wait to get my feet wet and to catch some Aussie waves.”
Anderson admitted that female surfing was currently enjoying one of the most talented field at the moment, with both the experienced as well as the fresh faces equally deadly in competition. She is expecting her skirmish at Gold Coast to be an exciting experience
as faces the new generation of surfers.
