Lisa Dobriskey raises eyebrows over doping procedures
Currently twenty seven years of age, Lisa Dobriskey is a British middle distance runner who has been achieving marvels in the field of athletics ever since her school days. A successful victor at the British Schools eight hundred meters title for juniors in 1998 and for intermediates in 1999, Dobriskey has been displaying her athletic charm ever since her youth. She also experimented with cross country running, settling for fourth position at the Junior Girls in 1998 and third position at the Intermediate in 1999.
However, her major breakthrough came in 2006 when she was crowned victor at the Commonwealth Games, achieving a shiny gold medal as a means of acknowledgement. The Beijing Olympics in 2008 did not prove fruitful enough, but were nevertheless an occasion at which Lisa Dobriskey further established her athletic might finishing fourth, which also resulted in her being ranked at fourth position worldwide.
Later on she emerged successful at the Fifth Avenue Mile competition, completing the tournament with the second fastest time ever recorded by a female athlete. Her personal best in the arena of fifteen hundred meters places her second in the British all time list, just behind Kelly Holmes.
The European Athletics Championships however did not emerge to be as prolific for Lisa Dobriskey as she hoped. She ended up weeping with tears of disappointment as she finished in the fourth position at the fifteen hundred meters behind Hind Dehiba; a French athlete who conceded the race with a silver medal. Interestingly enough, Dehiba was arrested three years back when human growth hormone vitals were retrieved from her luggage at the Charles de Gaulle airport.
This further led to her being banned for two years as she was tested positive for the blood booster EPO. Hence, Dobriskey was clearly shattered when she was forced to suffer defeat to an athlete with a doping history, allowing her to raise eyebrows over the efficacy of the procedures involved.
She released a statement articulating that it was naturally disappointing, and she only hoped that the doping system was fair enough to see the race as one that was fair. This only added further to Lisa Dobriskey’s woes, as she recently suffered another defeat, this time in Paris: Anna Alminova of Russian origin sprinted the fastest time ever displayed by any athlete in the past four years, beating Dobriskey ruthlessly.
Ironically enough, Alminova returned after a three month suspension owing to usage of stimulant pseudoephedrine. The past few weeks have nonetheless been extremely stressful for this British athlete, as she has found herself at the brink of defeats several times to athletes testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. This is only contributing further to Lisa Dobriskey’s existing worries about the credibility of the doping agencies and their procedures.
