Lisa Fissneider captures Girls 100m breast-stroke gold: Day four – 3rd World Junior Championships
Lisa Fissneider of Italy captured the title of Girls 100m breast-stroke on the fourth day of the 3rd World Junior Championships, organised by the Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA) on Friday, August 19, in Lima, Peru.
The 17-year-old Fissneider seemed inevitably strong from the starting blocks and pocketed the gold medal of the event in a championship record time of 1 minute and 07.71 seconds. Her time was nearly one second under her own championship mark of 1 minute
and 08.47 seconds, made by Fissneider in the semi-finals of the same event. Nonetheless, the Italian swimmer remained 3.26 seconds slower than the world mark of 1 minute and 04.45 seconds, made by an American swimmer, Jessica Hardy at the 2009 World Championships.
The junior champion was trailed by Kanako Watanabe of Japan, who stayed 1.18 seconds slower than Fissneider and secured the podium for the silver medal, by submitting a time of 1 minute and 08.89 seconds. Irina Novikova of Russia was the third fastest swimmer
of the discipline, as she was 0.21 seconds slower than her former swimmer and earned the bronze medal, with a timing of 1 minute and 09.10 seconds.
The podium finishers were followed by Mar Garcia Urzainqui of Spain, who remained 0.44 seconds behind Novikova and ended as fourth position holder of the event, with a timing of 1 minute and 09.54 seconds. Laura Simon of Germany obtained fifth position of
the event, as she clocked a sixth fastest time of 1 minute and 10.37 seconds.
Meanwhile, Maria Temnikova of Russia was sighted as the sixth best finisher, as she completed her swim in 1 minute and 10.73 seconds. She was trailed by Claire Polit of France, who remained 0.03 seconds behind Temnikova and finished seventh, with a timing
of 1 minute and 10.76 seconds. Tjasa Vozel of Slovenia was the last swimmer of the event, as she clocked a time of 1 minute and 11.35 seconds.
The arena went wild with the astonishing swims of all participants, while the winners collected their medals after the session.
