Lisa Fissneider wins Girls 50m breast-stroke semi-final: Day one –
FINA World Junior Championships
Lisa Fissneider of Italy won the Girls 50m breast-stroke semi-final on the opening day of the 2011 Federation Internationale de Natation organised 3rd World Junior Championships on Tuesday, August 16, in Lima, Peru.
Fissneider, who dominated the preliminary rounds of the same event by clocking a top finest time of 32.16 seconds, sustained her best qualification spot in the final rounds, with a timing of 31.77 seconds. Her time was 0.52 seconds ahead of the Championship
Record of 31.25 seconds, set by Amanda Reason of Canada in 2008. In addition, the 17-year-old Italian swimmer was 1.68 seconds above the World Record of 30.09 seconds, made by Yuliya Efimova of Russia, during 2009.
The Italian was chased by Claire Polit of France, who presented a 0.22 seconds slower swim than the fastest swimmer and earned the second qualification spot, with a timing of 31.99 seconds. Polit was trailed by Sarah Haase of United States, who remained
only 0.02 seconds behind her and submitted a time of 32.01 seconds for the third finest qualification spot.
Kanako Watanabe of Japan transpired as the fourth best qualifier of the event, as she ended her swim behind Haase with a delay of 0.07 seconds and clocked a time of 32.08 seconds. The 15-year-old Watanabe edged out her closest competitor, Mariya Chekanovych
of Canada, with a difference of only 0.15 seconds, as Chekanovych posted a fifth best time of 32.23 seconds.
Meanwhile, Laura Simon of Germany surfaced as the sixth qualifying swimmer of the event, as she completed her swim in a time of 32.44 seconds. She was followed by Yen Ling Christina Loh of Malaysia, who remained just 0.15 seconds behind Simon and touched
the finishing wall in 32.59 seconds for the seventh best spot. KC Moss of United States finished her swim with a delay of 0.05 seconds over Loh and settled as the eighth swimmer to enter the final, with a timing of 32.64 seconds.
In addition, the crowd appreciated the commendable swims of all contestants, while these finalists will compete with each other in the final rounds.
