The quarter finals of the U.S. Women's Amateur will begin after the end of the recent round of 16. Lisa McCloskey, the last of the Texan trio to make it to the match play stage of the tournament will not play in these quarter finals.
Lisa McCloskey made it to the round of 16 after beating three opponents in the previous rounds. Her defeat came at the hands of Jay Marie Green, the player from Florida, USA. The final score was 2 up in Green’s favour.
McCloskey had played a great game in the previous rounds and many experts were hopeful of seeing her in the quarter finals.
She has performed very well in these games and her streak of victories was expected to continue well into the final rounds.
Her first match was against Haley Millsap of Pace, Florida. This match was not easy but McCloskey managed to beat Millsap on the final holes. The final result was a 2 and 1 win for McCloskey.
The second match was in the round of 32. Here McCloskey drew Lauren Diaz-Yi of California as her partner. The match turned into a tough competition for both the players who struggled to dominate the game. The final result, a 4 and 3 win, and was in McCloskey’s
favour.
These wins had given her tremendous confidence and McCloskey was very sure of a win in the round of 16. This is always a tricky round in the tournament, as the results of the matches are often unpredictable.
A consoling point for McCloskey is that she lost to a very good player. Jaye Marie Green came to the round of 16 after defeating Andrea Lee. Lee was another favourite of the fans and her defeat at the hands of Green bolstered Green’s reputation as a formidable
opponent.
While this is the end of the road for the Texan players, the quarter finals will prove to be another tough round for the players. This round admits only the best of the players with a proven record of great golf.
Green will face Marijosse Navarro of Mexico in the quarterfinal stage.
