Lisa Westerhof, Lobke Berkhout take lead of Women fleet in Day 2 of 2012 470 World Championships
Proceedings on the first day of the 2012 470 World Championship were disturbed by lighter wind conditions and the fleet had to rely on only one race in both divisions. With a superb finish in the only race of Day 1, France’s Ingrid Petitjean and Nadege Douroux
were able to clinch the leading podium place in the overall standings of the 470 Women fleet.
However, the wind conditions on the second day of the regatta were quite ideal for a solid start for the participants. On the second day of 2012 470 World Championships, the race committee launched three scheduled races.
The French sailors, who were first day leader-board, tumbled down in the standings as they failed to improvise accordingly and finished on lower podiums to hit the fifth spot at the conclusion of second day proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Dutch sailing team comprising of Lisa Westerhof and Lobke Berkhout emerged as the new leaders of the podium places as they snatched the lead from the French team. The Dutch pair finished in the sixth position on the opening day proceedings
but Day 2 proved to be very lucky for them.
The duo sailed impressively in all three races of the day and hit three consecutive bullets to finish their run on top of the fleet rankings for the regatta. They topped the rest of the fleet with nine points overall after sailing in four races.
The weather conditions on the second day were perfect for a superb sail as the breeze was wafting around the racing area in Barcelona from 10 to 17 knots. Such strong winds helped the contenders to enjoy a complete schedule of the day.
