  1. Hypoxia.  This is the lack of oxygen.  SLight deprivation results is a goofy 'drunken' state.

HAPE or High Altitude Pulmonary Edema.  Due due lack of pressure, fluids start to drain into the lungs, Can result in death, usually not too sudden an onset.

HACE, High ALtitude Cerebral Edema.  Can result in a sudden and severe brain damage and death.

And a bonus.  Clean teeth.  Above a certain altitude, for most people around 16,000 feet, your teeth will clean and whiten because tarter will not form, the bacteria that form tooth plaque can not survive the lack of oxygen.

(Also, increased red blood cell production, deeper and more frequent breathing, increased heart beat.)

  2. - Nausea caused by exposure to lower oxygen levels inthe atmosphere (acute mountain sickness) mild to serious

    - More seroius effects of lack of oxygen, lungs may fill with fluid (high altitude pulmonary edema). Serious, a medical emergency

    - Fluid may collect around the heart (High altitude cardio edema). A seroius medical emergency.

    - Long term effect of living at mioderate to high altitude is an increase in red blood cells in the blood, as an adaption to lower oxygen content in atmosphere.

Edit: dougger's correct, cerebral edema.  Don't know where i got the cardio edema from.
