Australia has gotten it's troops out of Iraq

    Australia has a strong currency

Australia has an intelligent head of govt.

    Auatralis races their horses clockwise

Australia is part of the civlized world.

  2. Australia is an island.

Australian people have a higher life expectancy then people in north America.

    Australia has Christmas in summer.

Australia has like 21 million people, were as the whole of north America has 524 million people, the US makes more than half at 301 million people.

Australia has less water than north America.

  3. Australians aren't very religious

    Australia doesn't allow guns

Australia takes better care of the underpriviledged

    Australia's population is relatively tiny

Australia enjoys different sports such as cricket, netball, Australian Rules Football and Rugby League

This is compared to the US. Less differences with Canada.

  4. Australians don't tip.

Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, therefore different weather and seasons.

Our footballers don't wear padding, theyre not wusses.

Our weather is less extreme, i.e. The only snow in winter is up the top of the mountains and not in city areas. It also doesnt get as cold in winter.

Our FREE health system is of a high standard compared to that in America.

Let me just clarify something, in Australia horses race in both directions, it just varies from track to track.

  5. Australia has animals that are only found in Australia, the USA does not.

Australian people do not sue at the drop of a hat (but we are getting close sometimes). The USA does.

Australia has regulated gun control, the USA does not have regulated gun control. (As long as you have the money and no criminal record you can get one).

Australians are a h**l of a lot more relaxed then the people in the USA.

Australia is still part of the Commonwealth of Great Britain the USA is not.

Australia's crime rate per person is a lot lower then the USA.

Not everything in Australia is better then the USA but I believe that the grass is greener down under then up top (so to speak)

  6. I found this question interesting and the answers even more so.  I am married to  an Aussie who immigrated to the US about 9 years ago.  We go back every other year with our kids to visit.

What I found most interesting is that the Australians who answered lumped the USA in with Canada - that's like saying there is no difference between Australia and New Zealand.  Way to go on the sarcastic answers regarding the US's education system.... at least we can differentiate our geography.....

I think there are a lot of misconceptions - first, a majority of States do, in fact, have gun control.  I was always under the impression that Australia was one of our greatest allies, but after reading this, it was quite upsetting.  Education?  First, you are judging the USA as a whole regarding the education system, that would be like judging Australia's education as whole, and I wouldn't recommend that....  I had to laugh at the one comment about life expectancy - the true Australians, the Aborigines, have the lowest life expectancy - comparable to a Third World Country, or did you forget about them again?

And, as to the comments about our government, everyone seems to know when to go to the US when they need help.  Not Australia in particular, but remember, you are still part of a the Commonwealth, and Great Britain desperately needed us before and we have been and continue to be great allies.

I have stayed for extended periods of time in Australia and I would never move there.  I go for the courtesy of my husband.  I have found it to be mundane, arachiac and in general not a great place to visit.   Except Sydney, which I adore.  Civilized and a beautiful city!

Want to know some additional major differences between the USA and Australia?

    1)  Australians still think the "mullet" hairstyle is cool.

    2)  The fashion, in general, is something out of a bad '80's

          movie.

    3)  The majority of people are racist.

    4)  They are behind in everything from medicine to technology

    5)   Sydney - the closest city I have been to that has been comparable to NYC - truly should be "sister cities"

  7. Stacy M, you obviously don't go near the places I've been.

You sound quite stuckup and I hope I never have the misfortune of meeting you.

             1) Australians still think the "mullet" hairstyle is cool.

Don't know where you got this from. That's basically saying the same as those who said all Americans carry guns.

             2) The fashion, in general, is something out of a bad '80's movie.

Again, what part of Australia are you going to? Country towns may be a bit behind sometimes but that's just a silly comment.

              3) The majority of people are racist.

To quote "Avenue Q": everyone's a little bit racist.

              4) They are behind in everything from medicine to technology

So this isn't where transplant surgery has been ahead of the curve?

              5) Sydney - the closest city I have been to that has been comparable to NYC - truly should be "sister cities"

If Sydney ever gets to be truly  like NYC, I think the rest of Australia would head down there to slap some sense into them.
