List of Premier League Teams/Players for Whom the Weekend Will Be Very Important
The Premier League returns to the fray on the weekend after a break for the continental competitions with another host of mouth-watering fixtures. The clash of the weekend will be Manchester United taking on Tottenham Hotspur.
It is a top of the table clash that Manchester United would not want to lose at any cost and with Tottenham not having won at Old Trafford for over 21 years, it’s time they put this record right.
This week’s happening will hold great importance for some individuals and teams and following is a list of a few of those:
Tottenham Hotspur:
The last time the Spurs won at Old Trafford was back in 1980 when Gary Lineker scored a winner in the match. Since then, Tottenham have never won an away fixture in the league against United and with more than just their reputation
at stake, this weekend’s game is an absolutely must win for Harry Redknapp’s men.
The Spurs are trying to break the monotony of the so-called ‘top four’ in the league and will be out to prove that their last season’s fourth place finish was no fluke.
A win in the game against United will go a long way in establishing the credentials of Spurs in the league, and Harry is aware of this fact and is not willing to let the chance go by.
Arsenal
A home game against West Ham United is absolutely winnable for Arsene Wenger’s men, but then, a home game against West Brom was also touted to be an absolutely winnable one, and we all know what happened there.
Arsenal won at the Eastlands last week and now must back that win with what should be a routine win for them, but given the Gunners’ recent run of form, nothing can be taken for granted. West Ham have also found their feet in the
league and are trying to accumulate some points as they are currently lying in the bottom three.
The Derby win in London for the Gunners will take them to within two points of Chelsea, while a win for the Hammers will take them out of the relegation zone.
Manchester City's strikers
With such a wide array of attacking talent at his disposal, it is absolutely imperative that Roberto Mancini’s men find their goal scoring touch.
So far in the season, City have lacked intent going forward and with Mancini’s tactics of playing three defensive midfielders in every game, it is not helping their cause at all; however, it should be no excuse for the likes of
Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and David Silva, all of whom are sublime talents and can turn any game on its head with just their individual talent and skill.
Tevez is out injured for the game and the onus now lies with Adebayor and Mario Balotelli to carry the burden of a multimillion pound forward line on their shoulders, and as this is the last game before the all-important Manchester
Derby, it’s time that the City strikers wake up.
So far, City have scored less goals than West Brom, Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool, and a game against the Wolves is the best opportunity for them to put things right.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa have only acquired 1 out of the last 9 points available to them, and the pressure is on Gerard Houllier to get the results flowing in. A home game against Birmingham may not be the easiest of games in the season, but
if he wants to put things right, the Midlands derby is just the occasion for him to do so.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
The Wolves have not won in the league since the opening day, and with Sunday’s visitors being the super-spending Manchester City, things aren’t going to get easy for Mick McCarthy’s men. But if they have to survive the season in
the League, they will have to start accumulating some points and they would be no points any sweeter than the ones he can get against Mancini’s men.
