List of Toronto's professional sports teams (aside from the Maple Leafs) in order of popularity?

Question

Hi, I was curious to know what professional sports teams are most popular in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Of course, the Maple Leafs take that title, but aside from them, what teams do people in Toronto care most about? If something big were to happen for a team, which one would receive the front page treatment, or the greatest amount of support?

This is a matchup between the Blue Jays (MLB), Raptors (NBA), Argonauts (CFL), and FC (MLS). I posted this in "General Sports", but it received no answers and I deleted that since this specifically has to do with Toronto.

raptors are only popular with certain segments of the population

blacks and immigrants go for the raptors

a big reason for the immigrants

is because it would be difficult or expensive for them to get leaf tickets

I would say the blue jays are #2

baseball has a long history here in t O

football is also popular

the Buf Bills are going to start playing here

tickets are $300 each

180,000 people wanted to buy it was reported

an 8 game package of tickets

too bad we don't have a decent stadium in this city for a football team to play in

or a baseball team for that matter

then the jays would be even more popular

especially if they were winning

right now they are in last place

Argos are more popular than FC

whatever fc stands for

they play at this small out of the way stadium

argos play @ the skydome

the media (local) gives more coverage (way more) of the Argos

Raps, TFC, and Jays are "Canada's Teams" in their respective leagues and are supported across the country (not completely, of course)

I was pretty amazed when I googled some stats relative to your question.

Personally, I would have suggested:

1. Leafs

2. Jays

3. Raptors

4......everyone else before the Argos (even though I love Argos football!).

Here's a great piece I googled that shows sports' teams popularity is really all about Television viewership.

So, if you take the emotion out of the questionj and simply refer to TV viewership here's what happens:

While the Argos may always struggle to fill the stadium, they actually far surpass the Raptors in TV audience. Still, by far, the Leafs beat every other team in Toronto in terms of viewership and, therefore, popularity.

* On average, Raptors games on television draw about one-quarter the number of viewers the Argos draw.

* On average, Raptors games on television draw less than one-third the number the Blue Jays draw.

That's what I think. Mayyybbeee Jays and Argos are tied, but if one must be higher than the other, I would say the Jays are higher.

Now a little rambling...

I love my Jays, but so far this year...they've been less than spectacular. Pitching has been good but the offense is inconsistent and not productive most nights. I don't know when this is going to turn around. Plus we have a bunch of injuries again. I really want them to do well and I will keep watching no matter what, but I really can't put my finger on what's wrong. We scrapped the hitting coach, no change...who's next to go?
