List of confirmed athletes in the upcoming Winter X Europe announced
With the Winter X Games Europe 2011 (WX Europe 2011) just around the corner now, the fans of winter sports are getting more anxious for details of the scheduled events and participating athletes. They have been relieved of this anxiety to some extent by ESPN
as the confirmed list of athletes for the upcoming mega event has been announced. The list, however, will keep getting updated as the invited athletes are sending in their replies.
WX Europe 2011 will be kicking off from March 16 in Tignes, France. It will feature around 150 athletes in eight events over a span of three days. These events will include Men’s and Women’s Ski and Snowboard SuperPipe and Slopestyle. Some of the world’s
top skiers and snowboarders will be entering the contest to showcase their skills and confirm their superiority by earning the gold medal.
The line-up for the skiing events seems extremely impressive with some really big names confirming their participation. Some of the most prominent names include the three skiers from USA, Sammy Carlson, Bobby Brown and Alex Schloppy in the Men’s Slopestyle
discipline. Sammy Carlson managed to shine at the Winter X Games 15 (WX 15) in Aspen, and will be hoping to repeat the feat in Tignes. As for the women’s Slopestyle line-up, Canadian Kaya Turski will be more than pumped to relive the glory of victory she achieved
in Slopestyle at the recent WX 15.
The Skiing Men’s SuperPipe will be featuring the sensational Simon Dumont of USA and France’s Kevin Rolland in action along with other aces. Rolland proved his dominance in the recent WX but whether he manages to prevail over his elite competitors is yet
to be seen. The Canadian WX gold medallist, Kelly Clark, will be competing in the Women’s SuperPipe contest.
The line-up for the snowboarding event is not too modest either. Riders such as the Finnish Peetu Piiroinen, World No.1 as per the Swatch TTR World Tour Men Ranking, Canada’s Sebastien Toutant, WX 15 gold medallist, and Canada’s Mark Morris are but a few
of the top dogs contesting in the Men’s Slopestyle event. The American currently at top in Swatch TTR Tour Ranking, Jamie Anderson, and British Jenny Jones are the highlight of the Women’s Slopetyle line-up in the upcoming WX Europe. Jamie Anderson is a legend
and always a favourite in every snowboarding event, and one just needs to glance at her career record to know why that is so.
In the SuperPipe event, WX 15 Bronze medallist Louie Vito from USA would be one of the many riders that will be an obstacle in Peetu Piiroinen’s pursuit of gold. The Amercan Kelly Clark will try to capitalise on her confidence, because of the dominance in
the SlopeStyle event in recent WX, and snatch another gold medal. However, competing against her would be the Australian Torah Bright and America’s Kaitlyn Farrington among other pro skiers. The climb to the top will not be a piece of cake for her at all.
With such star-studded line-ups, the Winter X Games Europe 2011 is bound to deliver a heavy dose of thrill and electrifying winter sports action. Bringing the top skiers and snowboarders together always leads to an intense battle that turns out to be epic.
