List of top 100 performers in the game - MLB 2012 Update - Part 1
The 2011 regular season proved to be an exciting one in Majors League Baseball history. While there were many players who could not live up to their immense potential, some pleased fans as well.
Here is a list of the top 100 performers in the game today. Rankings, statistics, circumstances and playing conditions were taken into account before the list was put forward. The most important criteria set for the ratings were the OBP, SLG, wRC, ERA, FIP
and Fid. In addition to covering the stats for 2011, numbers from the 2009 season were also considered to give a true reflection of a player’s value.
Players, who missed the 2011 season due to injuries or health issues, are not included in this discussion. Therefore, players such as Josh Johnson, Buster Posy and Adam Wainwright will not be featured in this list.
1. Jose Bautista
For his sheer power and incredible hitting abilities, Jose Bautista has to be placed at the top position in the list of top 100 performers in the game at present. Baseball is a funny game as there are some things that can never be foreseen. Back in 2009,
no one would have thought that Blue Jays’s utility man will be among the top performers in MLB within two years.
Since he found his lost form in 2010, no hitter has been as big as the mighty Bautista. Displaying some high quality hitting skills, Bautista achieved an impressive .613 SLG, 164 wRC+ and 15.2 WAR. Showing his strength on almost all the parks, he hit 97
towering home runs in the past two seasons. Twice, he made it to the All Star team and he was added in the list of top ten players by Baseball America for both seasons. For his phenomenal and consistent performances, he also won a Silver Guard award.
He said, “I'm glad I got consistent at-bats, and got a lot of pitches to hit. I've done all right for myself. When you got a new coaching staff, coming in all they got is reports, probably it's better if they get a look at you on the field. You want to show
them what you've got. I'm just taking advantage of good pitches. I am seeing the ball real well and my confidence is pretty high right now.”
In addition to his attacking approach at the plate, Jose Bautista can field well at both third and right field. So, it will not be wrong to say that Jose Bautista is a multi-dimensional player who can lift the spirits in the camp with his all round performances.
However, it is not easy to conclude just how long he can continue this sensational run in the MLB. Being on the wrong side of 30, he will be looking to prolong his MLB career to register his name in the list of all-time greats. No matter what the future
holds for him, he is the best player in the Majors league right now.
