List of top 100 performers in the game - MLB 2012 Update - Part 7
10. Evan Longoria
In 2009, his 21.3 WAR was the second best among all baseball players. Today, not only is Evan Longoria regarded as the best hitting third baseman, but he also has exceptional fielding and catching skills. Having won the Golden Glove award twice in his career,
Longoria managed an impressive 54.8 Fld, which is the best among all the third baseman and third best among all positions.
He said, “I like to set realistic goals for myself, not outrageous ones. I constantly try to humble myself; if you don't, I'm sure the game is going to find a way to humble you.”
A genuine game changer in all aspects of the game, Longoria is thought to be the next super star of MLB. Very few players can play their natural game freely when put under pressure. However, Longoria has consistently shown that he can handle the heat. In
his four-year long career, he has helped the Rays come out on top in tense situations. He will be looking to maintain his sensational form in 2012 as well to give fans a lot to cheer about.
He added, “Obviously this is where, as a baseball player, I wanted to be. But if I told you two years ago I'd be in this situation, I'd be lying. It's all been a dream come true. Like I said, as a kid, it's what you dream of happening.”
11. Roy Halladay
Although Roy Halladay had been with a mediocre Blue Jays team for quite some time, there was nothing mediocre about his performance in Toronto though as he pitched with control and accuracy throughout to establish himself as one of the best pitchers in the
game. The player had an astonishing 32-21 win-loss record and he earned an impressive 2.78 ERA and a flashy 5.59 K/BB in his last two seasons in Toronto.
After he ended his tenure with the Blue Jays, Halladay moved to Philadelphia. Showing his amazing skills, determination and fighting abilities, he had an incredible 148-76 record. Halladay produced some memorable performances in his first season with the
Phillies. Leading the NL with 21 W, 250.2 IP 9 CG, 1.1 BB/9 and 7.3 K/BB, he went on to win the NL Cy Young award.
In a display of some high quality pitching, he pitched a perfect game in May and the second post season no-hitter in baseball history. Leading all pitchers with his superb 8.2 WAR, he was as good this season as well. Now, the only goal he will be looking
to achieve while he is at Philadelphia is to win a World Series.
Considering his stats and performances in the past, Hallday is surely a Hall of Famer in the game even if he leaves baseball for good today. The right hander seems to get better with every game he plays and he has shown no signs of slowing down. Sooner or
later, he will be regarded as one of the best pitchers to have played this game.
