I work with autistic high school students and want to supply them with visual recipes, books etc. Boardmaker is a software application designed for such tasks. Unfortunately our school does not have this facility. Any links would be appreciated.

  1. I use goolge.com.  Select images.  Try to find simple but realistic images without inordinate detail.  These work well in any picture communication system.  There are superior to Boardmaker's images which are too abstract for many students.

  2. I know that the website provides a thirty day free trial. You could download that on one computer at a time (until your trial runs out, then do it on one of your coworkers computers, and so on).

    As far as recipes, try

    http://www.bry-backmanor.org/picturereci...

    good luck!

  3. Mayer-Johnson, publishers of Boardmaker want to make $$ so it isn't available for free. I write in picture-support into my IEP and then have to write to my district SpEd dept with a long "proof" that the student needs it in order to get the district to purchase it and other picture support materials.

Also in my town there is an augmentative communication training center which will lend materials. Maybe there is one near you? google "assistive technology" and/or "augmentative communication"
