  2. Hi

I think this question depends on state to state and town to town. You should call your child's local public school where they will be attending kindergarten. Most schools have 'the year before kindergarten' workshops. In these workshops, they will tell you what your child "should" know or would be nice to know.

Most schools want children to know their first and last name. Also knowing their parents first name (sometimes last) is also helpful in case of an emergency.

Some parents teach their children their address and phone number (in case they take the bus to school).

The most important thing that a preschooler can learn is social skills. If they are comfortable around other people and is able to transition well..everything else will be taught in kindergarten. (My feeling).

Children are smarter then most people think. They are able to comprehend a lot of words. Mostly just from every day experiences.

  3. I dint think a child should know any English words before entering the kinder garden cause that is where they are learning ABC...so please do not pressurize the child just now.....

He should now nothing else but his name....

  4. Some kids enter kindergarten without knowing all the letters don't worry about what word they should know.

  5. In Kindergarten children are learning the letter, the sounds that they make, and words that start with that letter.  They also learn several sight words... and, the, like, a, I, as, did, etc.

Not many teachers, at least in NC, are expecting children to come in knowing words.  If you want your child to be ahead of the games, practice letters and sounds and read a lot together.

  6. I wouldn't begin to list that many words.  But they should know the alphabet and count to 20, know their full name, parents names, address and phone.  By kindergarten their vocabulary is quite a lot.

  7. 1. smile

    2.Happy

    3.friend

=) This is what they NEED to know

And knowing what there address and phone number would help.

  8. you can search the list in basic english

    ogden.basic-english.org/words.html

    esl.about.com/library/vocabulary/bl850...

you can teach from this sites

  9. just his/ her name.

the child will learn a lot of words in school, definitely.

  10. if you mean talking wise they should be able to talk very well and know lots of words. writing they should be able to spell there full first and last name and if they are able to learn fast then they should try to learn easy words like to, the, and, i, or  and other small words. get the easy reader books frm your local library and read with her and help her learn to read easy words like the ones fr writing.  this makes learning easier for kids and you get time with your child

  11. Schools now are different my son in kinder was writing in cursive, spelling four and five letter words, and doing time tables 1-5. They learn ABC's and 123's in pre- school.
