What is the name of the literary device in which the weather in the story, reflects what is happening in the story. Like in Macbeth when the king is killed the weather turns gloomy.

  1. It is pathetic fallacy.


  2. Symbolism.  That is where one thing stands for another.  Symbolism is used in a million different ways and the weather matching the mood is one; it may also be used in combination with foreshadowing (giving a hint as to how the story will play out).  Sometimes you will find a symbol that leads the reader to how the conflict unfolds (i.e., things don't go well for MacBeth)
