  1. 1. aliteration- the big, bad, brown, bear roared.(big, bad, brown, bear being the emphasis...aliteration is repitition of begining sounds)

    2. We awoke so early that the sun was still sleeping.(giving human qualities to a nonhuman)

    3. Listen to the bee buzz by.(emphasis on buzz.  Onomatopoeia is used to describe words that look like the sound they are describing)

    4. Religion can be a symbol for human spirituality. (Symbolism is the applied use of symbols: iconic representations that carry particular conventional meanings)

    5. deafening silence, successful failure, accidentally on purpose, and little big man are examples of oxymoron(a figure of speech that combines two normally contradictory terms)

    6. ur head is bigger than the moon, your as big as a house, it was raining cats and dogs last night (an overexaggeration)

    7. your beauty is like the ocean's breeze, my dog is as happy as your dog, or i'd rather eat a horse's liver than kiss you(A simile is a figure of speech used to make a comparison between two things, usually with the words like, than, or as)

    8. to hit the hay(you can literally hit the hay with your hand...but that is an idiom to go to sleep (figures of speech that contradict the principle of compositionality)

I hope these examples and definitions help you

  2. alliteration--bouncing baby boy

personification--the wind whispered through the trees

onomatopoeia--Whizz! The fireworks flew into the night sky.

symbolism--He was the dove of the family while his brother was the hawk. (Peaceful vs. warlike)

    oxymoron--jumbo shrimp

hyperbole--I'm so hungry I could eat a horse.

simile--She's as playful as a kitten.

idioms--Because I was late to work, I was rushing and ended up in a fender bender (small accident).
