my wife is bi-polar and is on 900 mg of lithium in the AM and 1200 mg at HS, but has developed diabetes insipidus. Her DR is thinking to stop the lithium, so what can she expect in the way of withdrawal? She has a very sensitive system, so would it be better in the hospital for her to get off it? she also has pseudo-seizures and that leads her in a her Disassociative Identities. She also has Cerebral Palsy. Other meds are Depakote 500 mg tabs--3 tabs at HS..and Effexor 225mgin the AM...Klonopin .25 mg 2x daily as needed.

  1. YOU need to be the one responsible for making sure that her TEAM of docs (with their respective specialties) are all communicating throughout this, and a good pharmacist can help you with drug interactions, so be sure that you are getting all your Rx at the same place.

  2. you should ask the doctor about possibly increasing the depakote as you decrease the lithium over a week or two, since they have very similar effects in both easing bipolar and preventing seizure
