Lithuanian Aidis Kruopis of Landbouwkrediet joins GreenEdge team - Cycling News
Lithuanian professional cyclists Aidis Kruopis is reported to have signed a contract with the Australian GreenEdge team according to Cyclism'Actu. Currently, he is riding for Landbouwkrediet team who has announced their termination by the end of this season.
The 24-year-old Kruopis was very happy after joining the GreenEdge team and mentioned that it is an actual chance to improve his professional career and put his name in the history books. He told cyclingnews.com, "I signed two days ago now for the new team
GreenEdge."
He started his professional career with Landbouwkrediet team and in 2007 he took part in Antwerpse Havenpijl race and grabbed runner-up spot. In 2010 season, Aidis took ninth place in Dwars door Drenth and overall Delta Tour Zeeland. He also took first spot
in Dwars door de Antwerpse Kempen and Schaal Sels-Merksem.
In 2011 season, Aidis took part in various races and secured first place in Grote 1-MeiPrijs, Schaal Sels-Merksem and Omloop van het Waasland. He won the second stage of Tour of Belgium with the fastest time of 4 hours, 21 minutes and 41 seconds and out-sprinted
Stefan Van Dijk and Pim Ligthart.
Kruopis felt that the GreenEdge team already has numerous high profile sprinters including, Stuart O Grady, Travis Meyer, Matt Wilson, Michael Albasini, Svein Tuft, Jens Keukeleire, Sebastian Langeveld, Jens Mouris, Fumiyuki Beppu, Tomas Vaitkus, Daniel
Teklehaymanot but there was a lot of chance to improve his sprinting ability with the help of Matt Goss, Allan Davis and Robbie McEwen.
He further added, "Yes, many sprinters have already joined the team. However, I hope to make my place and have my own chance to sprint for the win. Of course, I don't expect anything at the start, and I'm happy to do my work for the other senior riders."
Aidis mentioned that he liked the set-up of GreenEdge as the team will have a number of tours next year which will be helpful for his future. He will be looking to put in good performances for his new team as he becomes the 25th rider to join
the GreenEdge team.
