  3. Litter training your rats is fun and easy!!  Next time you clean your cage, save some of their "raisins."  Put the raisins in the litter box along with litter.  When you put your rats back in their cage, place them in the litter box and give them a treat while telling them what good little ratties they are.  Watch them for the next hour or so and give them a treat and praise every time they go all the way into the litter box.  For the next few days, give them praise every time you see them go into the litter box, even if they don't use it.

Rats like to be clean and prefer to go to the bathroom in one area.  By the end of the week you should see that they have caught on and are using the litter box regularly.

A few words of caution however...  Don't expect them to pee in the litter box. Rats like to mark their territory.  Also, be careful about the type of litter you are using.  They will eat it, or try to.  Some types of litter can dry out their skin which will make them very itchy, and some is very dusty and can irritate them as well.

    Good luck!
