They have the little leaps learning system at walmart for $20 and the games are only $7.50. I'm not reading good things about it on Amazon, but I thought I would get the opinion of the YA! posters.. should I get this for my son or something else?

  1. i just got 1 today for 1 dollar at the open air market

  2. My son has the little touch leap pad and different cartridges for that. He's not quite a year and a half but he LOVES his.

I'm going to wait about another year before stepping up to the little leaps game like system for him.  Personally I think they are worth the investment. My son has learned animals and names for familiar things all ready with his. We do leap frog about 15 minutes a day at least 4 times a week if not more. He loves it BUT the key to it being something successful versus something that just sits is the parent(s) have to do it with the child to help them learn and do some of the activities. It's not a bad thing in that aspect, but you need to be sure you're going to commit to time to do it with them when they show interest each day so it can be successful as a learning tool.

  3. We have one of those - it sits on a shelf unused. I think someone bought it for my daughter for her first Christmas (she would have been right at 9 months) and she is almost 2 1/2 now. She never showed any interest in it then and she doesn't really care about it now. She also has a Little Leap Touch Pad that she got around the same time - didn't care about that either.

My personal opinion on these things is that there is just no reason for them. Kids enjoy sitting down to read a regular book with mom or dad just as much or more and a book is cheaper. I've come to really dislike all the electronic toys. We have a lot more fun with blocks, a puzzle, or a ball than we do with a toy laptop (yes she has one).  They've got so much time ahead of them to stare at the TV watching cartoons and then all the other stuff, I'd take that $20 bucks and spend it on some nice blocks. He'll have more fun with them I'd be willing to bet.

  4. you should get him this.

    my brother has one.

its all he wants to do.

    it really encourages them.

they're cheap and easy to use.

  5. We've had several of the different Leap Frog products which are awesome educational products...for about 10 minutes. Then they become very boring to the kiddos. I've seen more of those things at garage sales and thrift stores than you would ever believe (that's where we bought ours). My kids only really played with them long enough to check them out completely but my preschooler would much rather have mom and dad read to her than a computerized book reader...my older two were the same way.

  6. I think the system is cute but we rarely use it.

  7. I got this for my niece and she played it twice. I personally don't think that it was worth the money. She had the whole thing figured out but she just wasn't fond of the games themselves. I set it up for my nephew right after his first birthday and he refused to play with it all together.
