Little Mike to lead the result card in Turf Classic
Little Mike is expected to hold top spot in the result card of Woodford Reserve Turf Classic, a Grade 1 American race that will be held at Churchill Downs racecourse on Saturday, May 5.
On the Firm track of 1 mile and 1 furlong, the Dale Romans-trained bay gelding will show his guts against 10 worthy competitors that include Turallure, Boxeur Des Rues, Get Stormy, Slim Shadey, Doubles Partner, Data Link, Turbo Compressor, Al Khali, Brilliant
Speed and Papaw Bodie.
Containing £291,400 in the prize purse, the action will commence at 9:44 (GMT).
Little Mike has been registering fantastic triumphs since the very beginning of his career. The five-year-old talented horse staged his debut in August 2009. After breaking his maiden in January 2011, the talented sprinter won three races in a row from February
27, 2011 to January 28, 2012. He finished 4th in his last outing on March 3.
This outstanding track record has made the maverick gelding a strong contender for the title of Turf Classic. If the son of Spanish Steps out of Hay Jude manages to produce a classic and consistent run, he will surely be able to finish first in the race.
He has as high as 95 percent chances to thrive.
However, each one of Data Link and Papaw Bodie can cause an upset in the race.
Data Link nicely clinched first position in his last start on April 13, 2012. Prior to this, the Claude McGaughey III-trained bay colt had finished 3rd against 7 rivals on March 3. Now, the novice runner is quite confident to bag any big triumph.
On the other hand, Papaw Bodie started his career with an epic victory on January 29, 2012. Michael J. Maker’s bay and brown gelding stepped ahead to finish as a runner-up in the very next outing on April 1. The talented horse is determined to do well today.
In this situation, there will be a rip-roaring clash in the Classic. Little Mike will have to fight with his back to the wall in order to thrive. Let us enjoy an amazing action. Good luck to all the runners.
