Little Owl edge past Villa de Lago by 11-10 in Everglades Classic Cup: US Polo News
J. P. Uihlein scored the game-winning goal in the sudden-death overtime to carry Little Owl to a 11-10 victory over Villa de Lago in the quarter-final match of the Everglades Classic Cup being held at the International Polo Club in Wellington, Florida.
The start of the game was quite slow and both teams could only score three goals in the first seven and half minute. Facundo Obregon and Jarod Zenni marked one goal apiece and put Villa de Lago ahead on the scoreboard. Uihlein in a counter-offence marked
a goal and cut the lead down to a single point. The chukka ended with Villa de Lago leading the game by one point, 2-1.
The attackers of Little Owl delivered a wonderful performance and established their first lead in the game. They earned three goals and held Villa de Lago score-less in the period. The troika of Little Owl including Jason Crowder, Chris Nevins and Uihlein
scored one each and took a two-goal lead, 4-2 after the end of the second round.
The pace of the game in the third set of play was quite fast and both teams scored five goals in the seven and half minute action. Pelon Escapite and Agustin Obregon scored two goals apiece and regained the lead in the game. On the other side, the defensemen
of Villa de Lago showed stiff defence and limited the Little Owl attack only for a single point. Crowder notched a field goal to end the first half game with Villa de Lago sitting on top with a narrow one-point lead, 6-5.
Villa de Lago further enhanced their lead in the fourth set of play and got another two goals, while minimised Little Owl only for a solitary goal. Agustin Obregon and his team-mate, Escapite, scored one goal each in the period. Nevins of Little Owl accounted
for a field goal and showed their presence on the field. The period ended with Villa de Lago holding a two-goal lead, 8-6 with two frames left to play.
The two teams exchanged one goal in the period and moved forward into the final set of play with two goals difference. Facundo Obregon punched a goal from the field effort, while Nevins managed it for Little Owl. The round concluded with Little Owl clinging
on two goals, 9-7 advantage.
The players of Little Owl cranked up their offence in the last chukka and had it all even. Joe Wayne Barry marked a goal and reduced the, lead while Crowder tied the knots at nine-all. In an end-to-end play, Nevins and Escapite swapped one more goal and
evened the results before the final whistle of the time completion. The two sides, holding a 10-10 dead-lock, went into the sudden-death overtime to make the game decisive.
With ninety seconds into the extra-time, Uihlein nailed the go-ahead goal on a long drive and sealed the Little Owl win in the game. The triumph made the Little Owls cruise into the semi-finals of the Everglades Classic Cup.
