Little fingers in royalty pictures?

Question

A question for historians here,

I have noticed on alot of pictures, such as some of Henry VIII's wives they have pictures of their hands and their little fingers are sticking out.

Does that show elegance? I think my history teacher spoke about it, but I was nt paying attention! lol
