  1. i agree, ask harry potter, or criss angel, either one works.

  2. Well, witchcraft still pretty much exists as it did in the past.  Gardner, I think, is considered the father of the modern movement, but I can't swear to that fact, or even the spelling of his name.  Never met the man. :)  Anyway, whoever did revive it, claims it is the old teachings that were original, and stresses that it WAS NOT Satanic in nature.  However, Crowley, another of the rebirth sect of witchcraft, had no problem with doing things that were clearly seen as evil in nature, though some seem to think he was open to being weak on the truth in some areas.

Of the more "old style," you could follow the Greek, Egyptian, Druidic, Satanic, satanic, or any of a dozen more that follow old religions, or even made-up ones.  Yes, there is a double "satanic" listing, because one worships the concept of Satan, and the other is more along a form of human-worship.  Since I don't practice any of these religions, I will allow those who do to clear up my mistakes and be more accurate in the details.  However, some will also point out that Christianity has a foundation in "witchcraft," so it all comes down to what you consider the term to mean.  The Church usually clearly states that it is the "worship of Satan/the Devil," that is meant by witchcraft.

Again, modern treatment runs the range from acceptance to intolerance.  In my area, it isn't uncommon to hear the term used to brand someone "Evil" and increase punishment.  I have seen several cases where this has happened, even if a person's religion is protected under the law, unless it violates a standing law.  It is still a very common type of stereotyping, more popular with the legal system than the common person.

In the 1600's, anything could get you busted for witchcraft.  However, being female, sexually active, intelligent, and generally everything we consider a modern woman is, would be the quickest route.  The Church, especially after a certain era, took perverse pleasure in torturing women and stealing property.  The more attractive the woman, the more detail they would be willing to provide the sexist courts.  Those who simply enjoyed torture spared no pain to treat men and women alike, much like those in places today, where a criminal is subjected to brutal treatment to confess.  Then, later, in a process much like US drug laws, property was taken on the confession or conviction that a person was a witch.  A lot of money was made by accusing loners and minorities of being witches so that their could be removed and their property taken.

Usually, all it took to start the process was for someone to accuse another.  The motive was pointless, just the accusation.  Almost no one was spared, either.  The common peseant all the way up to powerful members of the Church fell under accusation.  The Knights Templar are a good example.  Simple greed destroyed an Order that had served the Pope faithfully for generations.

It is easy to look up info about other religions, and I do recommend it so that you can understand what other people think.  However, like in the past, remember you are judged on what you read, do, and act by others.  Many people today are quick to judge others, even if their faith commands them to "judge not."  If you live in a small town, along the "bible belt," it is better to hide than end up in prison for having an open mind. :(

  3. Here is a good site for you to use as a source:

    1. There are many different kinds of paganism and witchcraft today. Try looking in wikipedia or on Google for:

    Asatru

    Heathen

    Pagan

    Shaman

    Wicca

    Gardnerian

    Hermetic

    Goddess Tradition

    Druid

Also, note some Pagan religions do not have witchcraft within them - for example Ancient Greek and Roman religions.

    2. Depending on where they live, modern day witches can experience a range of treatment... from having to live "in the broom closet" - or without revealing their religion at all; to people who live in pagan communities where the predominant culture is pagan/witch friendly. If you want to know more about this, read more about the country or area you are studying and see if they are accepting of g**s and others with "alternate lifestyles". The more accepting they are the more likely Witches can live without persecution.

    3. I would recommend that you Google or read Wikipedia about the Salem witch-trials as well as the burning times in Europe.  For more information, visit your local public or school library and ask a librarian to point out books and historical records about this period in history... it's very fascinating.

    Blessed be!

  4. witchcraft exists in many forms today.  From superstitious house grannies to series ritualists.

modern day witches are treated like everyone else, unless they shove it in someone else's face about how they are a witch, then they get their altars kicked over in the park.  Solution?  do your rituals at home.

a person considered a witch in the 1600's?  well what about the people who were thought of as witches in the 1600's.  We were all ready there.  People with moles, people with freckles, people of a different faith that another.  People who made potions even if they were healing herbs.  People who did "odd" things.  People who were mentally ill.  People who were spiteful, People who were vocal.  People who confessed.  People who didn't confess.  People who floated.  People who were burnable.  People who danced naked in the woods.  People who danced in the woods.  People who danced.  People with Superstitions.  People who counter superstitions.  People with black cats.  People with black dogs.  People who lived alone.  People who disagreed with another.  People with land mass that disagreed with another.

    Do I need to continue?

  5. ASK HARRY POTTER

  6. Witchcraft is a religion in which they worship mother nature, either in in solitary or in a group, called a coven. It's not all spells & broomsticks, but I believe sometimes they do cast spells to aid their personal life, etc...

  7. I am a Witch and no, Harry Potter and his friends are not what real witches are about, although they are entertaining!

True Witchcraft (Wicca) has nothing to do with the Devil. We do not even believe there is such a Being.

We believe in The God AND the Goddess. We love nature and revere our natural world. Some of us do use spells, but we do not seek to harm others.

Most people do not believe we are serious, that we are just playing around with a fad or are trying to make ourselves impressive.  I, personally, have never had anyone insult me or show me any type of bias, but some of my friends have been treated horribly. This is mainly due to people misunderstanding us.

In olden times, anyone who used natural remedies, did not attend church regularly, dressed differently, did not get along with his/her neighbors or lived alone where suspected of being witches.

Mostly, we want to be respected and just LEFT ALONE.

  8. all tough of forms exist either branching off of main or standout forms

we are treated more respected because of our senses. for say if no one knew me they would be suspicious because of my aura. any one who was a shady figure, owned many pet, mainly cats, or with mental problems was considered a witch.

  9. Wow Juicy...

Sorry I have no idea but I am very interested in witchcraft, physics, UFOs etc so I hope you can reel in some good answers, good luck :D

  10. I will answer questions 2 and 3.

    2. Modern witches are treated much, much better today than in the past. They are not being arrested, thrown in jail, tortured and executed.

    3. In the 1600s people who were vulnerable to the accusation of their jealous neighbors or were in some way inconvenient (that is, the accuser might benefit from the victim's death) or just plain eccentric people could be arrested for practicing witchcraft.

Some websites cite between 40,00 and 100,000 people were executed as witches. Others cite a more conservative, yet still tragic 26,000. Women were particularly targeted by the Church and civil authorities as witches.

There are lots of sites online that address the Burning Times.
